Call to include sexual minorities


Kathmandu: The sexual and gender minority community has demanded with the government to include the community in the public service commission vacancy announced by the state.
Speaking at an interaction organised by the Blue Diamond Society here on Saturday under the Community-Police Partnership Programme, various speakers said that the third gender needs to be incorporated in the advertisement for vacancies in the civil service.

On the occasion, Jiya KC, Ashmita Shrestha, Anisha Subedi, Sunita Lama and others representing the community said that they have been stigmatized by both the community police and society. And that government jobs in civil service would help them live a life with dignity.

Also speaking at the programme, DIG at the metropolitan police range, Rajendra Pokharel said the sexual and gender minorities have an important role in building a peaceful and safe society. “Nepal Police is ready to address the problems facing the third gender, and hence has included them in the community-police partnership programme,” he said.

Vice-chair of the Khursanitar Tole Sudhar Committee Harish Chand said that the state should give due attention to the sexual minorities by ensuring them jobs and means of livelihood.

The Blue Diamond Society has been advocating for the rights and well-being of the sexual and gender minorities with chapters established in 27 districts across the country.
