Kathmandu: At least 50 people were killed, 31 disappeared and 34 injured so far in monsoon-related incidents caused by rain since the past four days across the country, according to the Home Ministry.
More than 33,000 people in 28 districts have been affected by the incidents, and 2,156 have been rescued so far, said Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa in a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives on Sunday.
Rescue and relief efforts have been expedited through transportations of air, water and road. Various respective bodies of the government, the governments of all three levels, security bodies, local communities and various organisations are making prompt rescue efforts across the country, he said.
Various mediums ranging from electronic and social media have been used to prompt rescue efforts and ask vulnerable people to stay alert. Some of blocked roads have been cleared, while efforts are on to clear others, he said.
He further shared that the government was dropping edible goods and tents and other emergency medicines via helicopters in different parts of the county. While remembering the directives of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for providing immediate reliefs to the victims, Home minister Thapa added that the government has intensified the tasks of reaching reliefs to the needy places.
The Natural Disaster Risk Minimization and Management executive committee on Saturday itself had urged the government bodies, security agencies, social organizations, communities and all sides to join hands for the effective and planned rescue operation.

The incidents of landslides, water inundation and floods have increased following incessant rainfall since the past few days in the country and a large number of the people have been affected, with more than 50 deaths and thousands displaced.

Lawmaker Navraj Silwal drew the attention of the government on the issue of death caused by natural disasters in Lalitpur while urging to take initiations to remove the blockade in different sections of the roads.
Lawmaker Raj Kishor Ydaav, Jhapat Rawal, Prem Suwal, Dilendra Badu, Dila Sangraula, Yashoda Subedi, Rekha Sharma urged the government to manage immediate reliefs to the victims.
Responding the queries of lawmakers, Home Minister Thapa committed to further intensify the relief operation.
