DPM Pokhrel assures to live up to people’s sentiments in regard with Guthi


Kathmandu: Acting Prime Minister Ishwor Pokhrel has said the Guthi Bill introduced by the government would not be endorsed going against the people’s aspirations.
Speaking at the concluding session of the ‘first Kathmandu Metropolis-4 (ward level) open race competition Saturday, the Deputy Prime Minister said introducing the bill by someone at parliament was one thing, and passing it was rather a different affair. So, it would not be allowed to be passed hurting the people’s sentiments.
He asserted that the Guthi culture reflecting the people’s unity, and religious, cultural and religious sentiments should never be damaged. “Such culture must be honoured and thus protected. The centuries-old Guthis express and promote unity among the people” He added that current discussions were held on how to enact a new Guthi Bill which was absence in past.
The governments of the three levels–federal, state and local–are functioning without coordination. As a result, there is confusion in some cases. There is a need to allocate work responsibility among them,” he said. He also stressed the need for people’s representatives to work towards addressing aspirations of the people.
Likewise, State Assembly member Narayan Silwal pointed out guarantee of peace and security and quality lifestyle to the people alongside physical infrastructure development as helping bring prosperity. Ward chair Mohan Bista said public lands within the ward would be made public. Nabin Karki won the competition. Likewise, Alok Thapa and Nawaraj Budhamagar finished first runner-up and second runner-up.
